A pilot project was delivered with Seed funding from the Transition network to address the
ongoing exclusion of minoritized communities in Leicester from accessing information about
the climate crisis, fuel poverty, grant aid for energy efficiency improvements and other
services represented solely in English. The project was seeking to take the climate.
conversation to the places where people naturally gather and to encourage them.
to design their community responses through interactive workshops. The project was
piloted in Hindu temples and community centres in Leicester as the partners have existing
links with those.

What we did
Four Hindu Community Connectors were trained to raise awareness on the impact of
climate change From April 2024 8 workshops were delivered in Hindu. temples across
Leicester by building on relationships forged with Hindu Climate Action and Leicester
Community Links.
The pilot project attracted interest from wider community members, so additional
workshops were delivered at community centres and online sessions were held.
The delivery was from April to September 2024 as there were many Hindu festival
celebrations after that time so we recognised that community and religious venues would
be busy from October onwards. Two of the HCC undertook carbon literacy training delivered
by Leicester City Council which supported this project. 10 bilingual workshops were delivered
across faith venues in Leicester.
As a result of the success of this pilot project, we were able to deliver further projects addressing Energy efficiency, and environmental concerns especially river pollution by working with the Community Engagement and Training Development Officer for the Restore the Soar project Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust. We are planning a local Climate Conference in 2025.
